Software Review: CS Scribbler, Part 2

By Scott Clark If you're looking for easy to add effects, you may have found your tool! The Scribbler interface presents the user with two tabbed windows (See Figure 1) which allow the developer to choose either a function, a script from the library, or specific code tidbits from a specific language (VBScript or JavaScript). This gives the developer many methods of creating or editing a script, and can save time by eliminating some of the tedious aspects associated with manually editing a script. Just drag the "effect" from the left pane into the middle editing area and the code is instantly generated there.

In the middle of the Scribbler screen is a row of buttons which enable the developer to add if...then, if...else, document.write, with..., for loops, function templates, comments, etc. with one click. On the other side of the editing window is another row of buttons which are used like typical word processing software--simply select the text you wish to style and click the appropriate button. Users can add their own script snippets to the library, and they can customize the software with their own key assignments. Also featured is a form building utility, and a button which copies the selected contents to the clipboard. A search and replace function allows the developer to quickly replace key elements throughout a page.
