Creating Animated Gifs - #2
The first animation

Creating animated gifs is really simple. Let us start off with an example. Below is an image of a ball.

ball

The aim of this first exercise is to make the ball move from left to right and then back.

In the imaging software ofen a new work area 450 pixels wide and height equal to the original image (in this case it is 49 pixels). Copy the ball and paste it into the working area at the far left.

Create a new working area same hight and width. Paste the ball at a position more at the right than the previous frame. Repeat this procedure until the ball is completely at the right. At this point you should have a number of frames like the these shown below.

frame 6

frame 7

Now import the individual images in the gif assembler program in sequential order, and then in the reverse order. Save the animation. The end result should look something like this:

The end result

Congratulations you have just created your first animation.

Note: In the above animation we have used a special feature - the loop feature. When creating an animated gif you can specify the number of times the animation plays. This can vary from none (thus the animation only plays once) to infinity.
