Software Review:
Adobe Photoshop 4.0
Part 2
By Scott Clark
A Full-Featured Tool!
There is a lot going on with this tool! Here is a sampling of just the features that were new for this release:
Adjustment Layers
Adjustment Layers (masks through which an image adjustment is applied) may be stacked in the Layers palette, with each adjustment layer modifying the layers which lie below it.
Actions
Actions enable users to record a sequence of editing steps which may later be used as an Action that can then be applied to other selections, images, or files in a batch operation.
Figure 1. Photoshop's Navigator palette
Navigator
The Navigator palette (See Figure 1) provides an easy method of moving quickly to any location in a magnified image. This is a very slick means of viewing any part of the image you are working on by clicking on that part of the image in the small "thumbnail" of the image in the Navigator palette.
Guides & Grids
Guides and Grids may be pulled from the rulers to enable precise horizontal or vertical lines to which tool operations can be "snapped." A lot of tools feature grids, but this allows you to use them when and where you need them for greater control.
Free Transform tool
The Free Transform tool allows users to scale, rotate, skew, add perspective to, or distort a selected image area in a single step. This is a tool you'll find yourself using a lot.
