Software Review:
JASC Paint Shop Pro 5
(Part 4)

By David Fiedler

What's Missing?

PSP box If there's a flaw that prevents Paint Shop Pro from being the world's hottest Web graphics tool, it's simply that it wasn't designed with the Web specifically in mind. As far as Web-oriented features go, it can "buttonize" images, has a great deal of support for transparent backgrounds in both GIF and PNG formats, and has a terrific new animation wizard, with transitions (in case you hadn't noticed :-) and optimizations and all that jazzy stuff. But that's about it.

On the other hand, remember how easily you can use Paint Shop Pro 5 to quickly generate and modify images and animations, either from scratch or by using picture tubes, TWAIN devices like scanners or digital cameras, or grabbing an image right off your screen. With the kind of control and ease and power it gives you, maybe Paint Shop Pro 5 is all you need, period.
