Note: this software may give you cookies. The only purpose of the cookies is to keep track of your name/email address (so you don't have to type them in again) and which articles you've read between visits. You can delete the cookies if you don't like them, but that may mean a bit of extra work on your part for logging in and out.
What the Heck Are Threaded Discussions?
For the uninitiated, threaded discussions are simply a "written" version -- hosted or posted on a Web page -- of what would be conversations in "real life". Let's say you go to a party; you might find people talking about their kids, houses, fishing, or baseball. Each of those topics is a "thread"; someone will start talking about a subject, and others will reply, until they mutually agree that the subject has been covered adequately, then they start talking about something else (in actual practice on the Net, this almost never happens :-).
The most (in)famous example of computer-based threaded discussions is Usenet, which many people refer to as "newsgroups". A good place to find out more about Usenet is at
DejaNews.
