    Question:
    Dear Dr. Website:
I am looking for the way to allow all graphics to download before the website appears. Is it a META tag? A good example is aberdeenpc.com. You don't notice anything when it's loading; suddenly it's there.

    Answer:
You can preload images (see our previous column on this topic here: http://www.webdeveloper.com/drweb/19980518-drweb.html ), but in general they're used for display later in the page (perhaps using JavaScript and DHTML), or on subsequent pages that use those images. The site you mentioned, however, isn't preloading images, or doing anything special with their images at all--they're just optimized images so they tend to load faster than other images you might find on the web. Most of today's graphic editors have image optimizers included, so once you're done editing an image, you can optimize it for the web.
    Thanks

    Question:
    Dear Dr. Website:
I noticed that when I bookmarked your site it had a symbol next to it. I can find information on how to do it anywhere could you give me the link if it is on your site or if not explain.

    Answer:
This is one of our most common questions...you can find complete details on how to create your favicon, as it's called, for your own web site here at our site, WDVL.com: http://wdvl.internet.com/Authoring/Design/Images/Favicon/

    Question:
    Dear Dr. Website:
I recently created this homepage for my breaking crew.

I was wondering how i can get a web domain with unlimited webspace and create a professional looking page like companies have.

For example like www.breakdance.com I need to upload videos of my crew on the site and I have been looking around for some time and still haven't found a site that gives unlimited web-space.

There is always a limit even when you pay. Is there anything you know that i can do to get a professional looking and functioning site???

    Answer:
Domain names are cheap today, as low as $15, and most companies that sell domains also have a deal worked out with a web host, so they can be your one stop shop. Alternatively, you can view many different web hosts and web hosting plans at our site, the List: http://webhosts.thelist.com/

You can check for the features you're after...keep in mind that most hosts have a limit on the amount of web space you are allowed. As for a "professional looking site," that's where a skilled web development professional comes in.

You can either use a WYSIWYG HTML editor and do it yourself (and unless you know what you're doing, you might end up with a page that's not as professional and slick as you want it), or you can hire a web designer to create the site for you. You can find a list of such developers here: http://designlist.internet.com/
    Thanks

    --Dr.Website Question:
Dear Dr. Website: Is there any free service that checks a page for HTML errors and makes suggestions for change?

    Answer:
There are several such services...you can use the W3C's HTML validator:

    http://www.webreference.com/services/validation/html.html

or you can choose from the list we've put together on WebReference.com:

    Thanks
