Dear Dr. Website: How can I trace someone by using their IP address? I know there are sites where you just enter the address and it tells you where they are coming from, but I cant find the site anymore. Answer: command That will bring up the DOS window. Once that is open, type: tracert theIPaddress substituting the IP address you wish to trace for the words "theIPaddress." That will show you the route to the IP address, and will give you the computer names of those "hops" it goes through.
You can also use this online utility which tells you the ISP of the user of the IP address: --Dr.Website Question: <form method=post enctype="text/plain" action="mailto:wbilder"> [wbilder is my internal address. After filling out a form and click the submit button, I get a blank e-mail message with the TO containing wbilder. None of the form info is contained in the message. I did the form at home and tested the form to my home email address and had no problems. Answer: <INPUT TYPE="TEXT" VALUE="" NAME="name"> <INPUT TYPE="TEXT" VALUE="" NAME="email"> Then when the form is sent, those will show up like this: name=Scott email=scott@home.com
If you leave the names of the fields out, nothing will show up

Question: My kids would like to create their own personal websites/web pages. I am comfortable with their the internet access behavior, and I keep close watch on their use of the internet. I use the most current version of Norton Internet Security Family Edition which includes a personal firewall and parental controls, but I have no idea about the risks of having a personal website/web pages. I've tried various website searches for this information without success. I would appreciate any information you can provide to assist me to learn how I may allow my kids to have their own websites safely. Are there additional vulnerabilities/risks of having a personal website? Do you recommend any specific protection software beyond my current Norton software? Are there specific protections for kids with their own internet websites/web pages? I would also like information on how to set up their websites/web pages. Are there any downloadable (freeware if possible) website/web page design kits specifically for kids with child safe provisions? Answer: Essentially, a compromise is needed between you and your children. They should be allowed to put anything they want on their web pages, with the exception of personal information. Their name is fine, but don't allow them to release their:
* phone number As long as their address/personal info is not revealed, they should remain safe from the unscrupulous individuals out there. That said, there are many resources for children who wish to learn how to make their own web pages.
