Khaki will be thrilled! By the way, what book(s) did you get?

neenach2002

"HTML: A Beginner's Guide Second Edition"
and
"The Book of Javascript: A practical guide to interactive web pages"

yea...khaki was upset at me since i made a website and didn't use HTML properly...

:)

YAY!!! ;)

but i see that you still use angelfire :(
(oh well.... i can't win 'em all i suppose ;) ).
i guess that i'll just have to be happy that you are learning html ...
that's good enough for me (for now :) )

Here is a site to help fill-in any gaps (Khalid :) turned me on to this one) :

http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_doctype.asp

And here is a link from the big kahuna (to keep Charles off my back ;) ) :

http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/

well anyway... i really am thrilled...
(so thanks for mentioning it ;) )

see you on the late-nite boards!!! :)

i'm also learning...JavaScript!!!!
I think i might switch to Msn for hosting...i'm now fed up with angelfire...the problem is...i have all of my files set up on...you guessed it...angelfire:mad: :mad: :mad:

p.s. those websites you listed, are in the HTML book!!!

p.s. those websites you listed, are in the HTML book!!! spooky coincidence :eek:

glad to hear that you are bagging angelfire :)
(i know that it will be a lot of work moving things over... but it will be worth it... beleive me)

oh... and whatever host you go with...
try to make it one that doesn't add their code to your page.
as we've seen with angelfire... it makes it a real pain in the *ss to de-bug
(i know that i suggested Brinkster to you in the past... but that is up to you).

and as far as javascript goes...
it's good to know... but html is absolutely essential to learn first (seriously).
so i hope that you don't put html on the shelf while you play with javascript.

have fun :)

actually, my JavaScript book is basically untouched, just read half of Chapter 1, i'm halfway through Chapter 2 in the HTML book
i think i'm going to go with MSN, but like i said, functionality will be lost, ie. my navigation toolbar will become obsolete on MSN...
can you recomend anyone else other than Brinkster???...
I figured out what the problem was with the code/angelfire stuff!!!
someone had hacked into my stuff...
almost got me deleted...
by putting PORN on my DBZ website...i got an e-mail...from angelfire saying that my website had been reported...
lol...so that's cleared up...

this book says not to type the "&" as "&" it says to type it as "&" or "&"

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 02:40 PM
it covers all types of web pages...but it singles out all types of html!!!

i think i'm going to go with MSN, but like i said, functionality will be lost, ie. my navigation toolbar will become obsolete on MSN... ummm...
i don't see why.
your navigation menu (which uses tables :( ) is simply <a href> combined with <style>.

there appears to be no reason why you should lose navigational functionality.
(although you might want to lose the layout of presenting it using tables --- one of these days ;) ).

and i assume that the forum interpretted & a m p ; (without the spaces) as just & when you typed it....
but yes.... that is proper ;)

as far as other hosts...
i used Geocities many years ago (but i hated the adds... and their code.... on my pages).
Maybe someone can recommend a free host without ads (but I STILL don't understand your reasons for not using Brinkster :rolleyes: )

and by the way....
your ants page still doesn't work in Netscape (just thought i'd mention it :) )

i think i'm going to go with MSN, but like i said, functionality will be lost, ie. my navigation toolbar will become obsolete on MSN...
well the navigation menu will become useless...since MSN has it's own built-in nav menu...welll maybe i'll use brinkster...
:D :D :D
oops... i guess it interpreted "& a m p" and "& # 3 8" as "&" and "&"

Well, Brinkster does have very little bandwidth--although it supports ASP, and has no ads. So you can see why they offer little bandwidth--they're almost like an ASP version of http://freewebs.com/ (they include PHP instead). I have found many good hosts for my testing needs, but almost all of them either have one (or more) of or none of the following:

Low Bandwidth
No server-side languages
Popups and/or banner ads

And that's not good--not in my opinion. But sites such as http://netfirms.com/ or http://megaone.com/ are fine, in my opinion. They apply to the "rule" above as well--Netfirms provides a CGI-BIN, but only FTP and there is a limit on bandwidth, they also server an ad at the top of the pages, but no popups, thank goodness. Megaone.com, on the other hand, gives no bandwidth limitations, serves an ad at the bottom of your page but no popups, but doesn't give any server-side language support.

Yes, this forum does that. To prevent it, and be able to write &amp;amp;, type in &amp;amp;amp; and you'll get &amp; as the result.

i will probably use megaone...no bandwidth limit...and 50 megs of space!!!

Jona
05-26-2003, 03:33 PM
Another host that is very good (although they do serve popups and no server-side language), is http://bravenet.com/ The reason is they give 100MB of space, and 500MB of bandwidth. So the bandwidth is limited, but it's twice that of Megaone--of course, you could always just get two Megaone accounts... :p (But I don't really think you should--that wouldn't be nice.)

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 03:35 PM
no...i'll get 3 or 4 megaone accounts!!!!!!

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 03:37 PM
if i link files between the accounts is it remote loading???

Jona

Just make sure you read their TOS (Terms of Service) first. ;)

Jona
05-26-2003, 03:38 PM
Since it's all in the same top-level domain, that might be a possibility. I don't quite know if it will or not.. Try it. ;)

khaki
05-26-2003, 04:06 PM
okay then....
don't forget to change the link in your signature ;)

man...i wish someone would upload the files for me...this is a pain in the ass... well.....
i suppose you could always just re-write them in standards compliant html (just for practice :) lol).

;) k

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 04:11 PM
what is the code for auto re-direct???

Jona
05-26-2003, 04:27 PM
Well, in Javascript it would be this:

window.onload = location.href="http://cybamall.com/neenach2002/index.html";

In HTML it would be this (for non-Javascript users):

<!--Note: this goes in the head tags-->
<META name="Refresh" content="0; url=http://cybamall.com/neenach2002/index.html">

You might also want to include a link, just in case the user doesn't get redirected. Also, the 0 in the META tag above can be changed to whatever number of seconds you want to wait--you can also set a specific time before redirection with Javascript.

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 04:32 PM
ok...which one is better, JvaScript or HTML???

Jona
05-26-2003, 04:38 PM
Both. lol Put the META tags (in the HEAD of the document) in <noscript> </noscript> tags, and use Javascript.

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 04:38 PM
i HATE angelfire....it won't let me save my index page now!!!

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 04:40 PM
i'm confused!!!

Jona
05-26-2003, 04:52 PM
Like this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML public "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<noscript>
<meta name="Refresh" content="0; url=http://cybamall.com/neenach2002/index.html">
</noscript>
<style type="text/css">
<!--
p {text-align:justify;}
//-->
</style>
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
location.href="http://cybamall.com/neenach2002/index.html";
//-->
</script></head><body>

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 04:59 PM
but now when you go here (http://www.angelfire.com/dragon/dbseries)
you won't see the message

Jona
05-26-2003, 05:00 PM
If you try viewing the source code, you'll find that your page is not even coming up. Are you sure the account wasn't deleted or something?

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 05:13 PM
try again...i fixed it now...

khalidali63
05-26-2003, 05:13 PM
Meta tag redirection is not recomended by w3c,Use javascript or a server side redirection is considered best.

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 05:17 PM
please tell me the best approach to auto redirection. i changed my web host but no one knows...please help!!!

khalidali63
05-26-2003, 05:21 PM
the solution posted above should work.
anyways..

just put the follwoing code in the page at the anglefire

<script type="text/javascript">
window.location.href = "http://cybamall.com/neenach2002/index.html";
</script>

<body>

<a href="http://cybamall.com/neenach2002/index.html";>My New Website</a>

</body>

the above will work
in most cases

Jona
05-26-2003, 05:25 PM
Khalid, the code I posted works perfectly, although you are right, the W3C does not like the Refresh META tag--but it does work for non-Javascript users. ;)

Also, your link has a semi-colon after the quote. I think that's a typo because you're so used to Javascript. lol ;)

neenach2002
05-26-2003, 05:28 PM
but i want it to occur after a set amount of seconds...how can i make it so???

khalidali63
05-26-2003, 05:28 PM
lol...nice catch..
hey neena...remove the simi-cols...

<script type="text/javascript">
window.location.href = "http://cybamall.com/neenach2002/index.html";
</script>

<body>

<a href="http://cybamall.com/neenach2002/index.html">My New Website</a>

</body>

:D

How about this jona..:-)

neenach2002
