Pros and cons of getting into web design?

I'm a 25 year old female that's interested in getting into web design and I was hoping to get a head's up about the field.

OH thats a hard question...

At what point are you trying to get into this as a cog in a company thats all up and running or are you looking at working for youself and running your own business?

That is the most important factor you have to consider. My answers would be different for each one. I'm going to focus my reply on the business end... because the JOB end is just that a JOB.

if your looking for a JOB then it's nice since in most cases you can focus on just the "design" or the "building of websites".

On your own - you have to wear a lot of hats Sales, Customer Support, and Design!

There is a lot of room in the field for you to enter the amount of new and old businesses without sites is huge!

If you have the talent and the drive then start out getting 1 client hopefully someone you know close friend or family member who owns a small business make a 5-10 page website. Don't bother with this version trying to sell anything on it get a couple of these information only sites under your belt.

Help these first few clients really build the site and learn how to promote yourself while promoting them.
