In 2001 I built a web page for my church. I maintained it for 4 years. I had to give the job up last year due to having my 4th child it just became too much for me. Especially since it was an unpaying job. The page sat for a year. Finally someone took over this January. I was happy to see someone had finally stepped up to the job. The new webmaster changed the background to a badly tiled image. I figured I couldn't complain because it was not my job anymore. Then I read the bottom of the page where she had written "Designed and Maintained by Her Name". This really bothered me! I am not against her changing everything about the site if she wants but just changing the background image does not make her the designer. Untill she does change the design I don't think she should have taken credit for it. Today I followed her link to her personal site. She has an online resume for computer graffics and web page design. In her resume she has the church site listed as her own. She did not even bother to take my name out of the meta author or the meta email tags on the site. My mother told me "Just let it go. It is a church site, God would want you to forgive and forget".

OK this might make me a bad catholic but I can't just forget about it. I don't want to start a war with my church or this woman I just think what she did is wrong and she should change it.

Thanks

Karen

I'd call it lazy, dirty, and underhand. Though I'm sure you'd be able to resolve the situation without having to resort to pointing out the lady's ineptitude and dishonesty. It being a church, I'm sure they'd listen to a calm, polite, and well reasoned request that the credit remains yours whilst the "maintained by" bit goes to her.

Good luck. ;)

Claiming someone else's work as your own is called plagiarism. People have been thrown out of Universities or been fired from their jobs for such acts. She is running a risk of losing any job that she obtains from claiming your work as her own if her new boss ever finds out and that could make it really difficult for her to ever find another job.

Thanks Ya'll I just needed to vent a little about the situation. I am going to go up to the church and talk to the ladies in the office about it.

And keep in mind that some religions have the concept of "karma", which has a way of making things all work out even in the end. :)

Call the Pope. That's what I do. I'm not Catholic but my wife is. Every time she gets out of line, I just threaten to call the Pope and it shapes her right up.

Honestly I would bring it up to her in person, ourside of the church.

I would address it as, that she must remove the 'desighned' portion from that statement, as well as remove it from her online portfolio. Untill the time that she actually does a omplete re-design [not encluding the actual page content]
