Hi there,
I would really appreciate some feedback on my site as I'm not sure if the overall layout is acceptable especially for a text only site.
I'd like your view on the Maroon border which is visible only on the home page.
How better do you think I could display the centred text, reading from "Has organized" to "the light and sunny path" directly underneath the welcome message.
Would it be possible do you think for me to place a border round the upward scrolling image on the home, I feel it's a bit sort of bland looking at present.
I know it's a lot to ask, but I'd really be greatful to read your opions/advice.
I notice the page is a bit slow loading from here, but it's normally ok.

(edit...maroon border not visible with Firefox.)
Don't be put off by the content. :p :)
Cheers,
Syliner.

Ok I probably wont be much help but I see no one else has left you any feedback so I want to help out.. I am in Firefox so your right I dont see a maroon border..A site like your own kinda doesnt need alot of design to pull its target audience due to your message alone. However you did ask for design advise so here it is.. First I would get a different background than the current maroon one. A simple google search for relegious backgrounds should do the trick. Ok Next I have 2 options that come to mind to center your text a little better. First it may just be me but I find white text on color backgrounds hard on the eyes maybe just me though. So I would either 1, set up a navigational menu to the left to go where I wanted to go on the site. Or 2, Place your message in a scrollable/expandable box. that will keep me from scrolling forever down the page and as well keep the navigational menu (if you make one) visible on my left. Then add more of your content below the expandable box.. maybe more testimonials or such in another expandable box. This way after I have read your site intro or mesage I can click the minus sign and compress the message where I only see the title now.. Now all of the below content like testimonials are now in my face.. If your not into taking the time to build a menu and build tables then I would search for Free Relegious Templates. Get a template you like and just drop in your information... Much more user friendly.. In fact that is the prime thing I would suggest.. Fast easy and looks good. As far as the scrolling image goes. Getting a new template with a white background will make it look much nicer of course.. Sorry to ramble but atleast do that search for the templates..

Thanks Wicked,
I was thinking perhaps the content was putting members off from replying or the site was so bad it didn't warrent a reply. :)
Anyway, I read with interest your opinion.
The background; You may think this unusual but I was staying away from the traditional "religious" backgrounds that folks have come to expect. You see the target is folks who've been hurt one way or another by errr...the over zealous ones, so I toned things down a bit, but I'll give it some serious thought again.
I have to say though, I noticed some really good clean sharp and attractive backgrounds on other members web sites, got me thinking...made me lust. lol.
The menu; I origionally had a Selteco left side, slide out, drop-down menu, but it dropped way down past the bottom of the screen as the site content grew. So I came up with the menu idea I have at present, but again I can give it some thought.
Your scrolling idea sounds good, I'm still learning but I can play around with some basic designs.
All in all, a very constructive and welcome reply Wicked.(not at all a rambling)
Many thanks again for your time and effort.
Skyliner.

you may design a border for the entire text on your home page.
you can do it using CSS.
the site looks good
however, i dont think such a font size is needed.

I don't like your website, and here why:
1. You are using splash page and text there is moving...slowly. What is it, - 90's? And instructions how to pause it? Please, give your visitors a break.
2. Red banner on red background with white text - sure way to give your visitors headache. Also, you are talking there about "sincere hope to gain peace, joy, happiness" and at the same time using most aggressive and sexy colour (red)?
3. Why the navigation is in the bottom of the page? Move it to the top, or expect everyone click back button.

I like your comments Oliver, they are brutal and honest. When I get a chance to put my site online, I want you there to comment on it!
- The scrolling text is too slow; the navigation should appear on the initial screen, not be found by scrolling.
- The red background with white text isn't exactly comforting. Usually red is used to represent aggression. Opt for cool colors, such as green, blue or purple.
- There is too much text on the page; when viewers see a big block like that, they're likely to read only the first few lines, then leave. Edit your content so that it only provides what the viewer needs to know to be interested in your service. (People do not read a screen as they would the printed page.) Also, break up, when possible, the text using bullets or images.
- Make sure your links open in the same window, not an additional one. Having to close a bunch of windows is really irritating.
- Some information about legitimizing your ministry would be helpful. Some personal credentials and/or information about what "type" of Christianity you're endorsing would also be helpful. "Christianity" is a generic word that can apply to any religion that mentions Jesus: the differences are derived from the perceptions of His role.
Good Luck -

Are you referring to the border around the top banner? I don't see a border (IE 6.0)

Well...... I would do something different than the JavaScript scrolling. Maybe each point to appear one after another like in a JavaScript photo slide show. Scrolling text recks my nerves-I never wait to read it all.
If using a dark background, I would suggest using a white background for the text. It makes for much better reading. Also, steer away from all the bold text. see example here (http://www.forhimentertainment.com/about.htm)
Good Luck!
