Is there a way to force a file to open in Acrobat Reader and not the browser? We have a pdf that opens very slowly in the browser and just fine if Reader opens. What we can't do is tell every user that they need to adjust their user preferences so that the file loads better. Any help is appreciated.

Can't be done from the server side.

Have you made any changes to the file since you last did a "File/Save As". That would cause the whole file to download before the browser starts to display it rather than loading it progressively into the browser as it downloads.

Nope - that depends on your machine. Not controllable by anthing you can do via a web page.
BUT
If it is just your own personal machine and not a million random others you need worry about then I *think* if you un-install/install reader again it might force control of the PDF file type association to be to the reader and not the browser.

How the PDF is served to the browser depends on whether it has been edited again since you used Save As. That is about the only part of how the file is processed on the client end that you can control.

Oh well. I suppose we'll need to include some kind of message about changing Acrobat settings on the site. Thanks for the information.
