Say if i had an idea for a website e-commerce business, what are the best steps in putting it all together, for example:
1. you might develop story boards for each page?
2. Investigate resources, money needed etc?
3. development phase
4. testing phase
5. launch
any professional suggestions, or any online resources that you are aware of?
thanks

Story boards? Not sure what's meant by that, but basically if you're not a developer/designer yourself, the best thing to do is to start pricing the hire of one. Then start examing various page hosts, what they charge and what they'll do for you. The developer you settle on will tell you what technologies your host needs to support.
If it's e-commerce you'll need shopping cart software, and some way to accept payment. If you're planning a small scale beginning you might consider paypal, but it's fairly limiting.

Story boards?Lol JP.
Well GLP23, you have a pretty good idea on the "proper" method of developing a website. But make sure to include at the beginning documentation of the clients requirements.
Its not always as easy as this though, you may go back and forth between stages, you may jump back a couple stages, et cetera.

thanks for that, i have done a bit of development but would hardly call myself a "coder", do you have any accurate examples of what story boards should look like? i want to try and do a lot of it myself...

For an application like an e-commerce site, you'll find more information about the story board type of analysis if you read up on "use cases."
