Here's a weird one: I have this icon that really isn't associated with anything, and its stuck on my screen. I can't get rid of it. If I try to delete it, I get a popup message that says "Cannot delete file". Here's a screen shot of what I'm talking about:

It's been there for a few weeks. Anybody have any ideas how I can get rid of it?

Have you tried eraser?

restart your computer. make sure you start with minimal programs running in the background. If it cant delete the file there could be various reasons ie: the files already in use, a program is using that file, its write protected or locked, the area on the hard drive its stored has damaged clusters, etc. Try also task manager (windows crtl+alt+del) to stop any processes or programs. You could try eraser just personally i dont like installing too many programs all over the place. (be careful when using erasers not to erase important registry files or shared files like *.dll's)

Yeah, I've been that route, wh666, and I was starting to wonder about a damaged cluster or something along those lines. The thing is, nothing seems to be able to acknowledge that the file is even there. Must be my ghost in the machine.

Have you tried booting up in safe mode to see if you can delete it there?
