I just finished a site for a client. She simply wanted a "billboard" style site for now. She eventually wants to be able to give customers the option to purchase tags and licenses on the website.

Please review:

www.totem-llc.com

Thanks in advance,

One question I have is: is your form functional? It submitted with no problem with all blank values. I'll add some more tomorrow, but I'm in a bit of a brain fog at the moment.

Yes...it is functional. Thanks for checking it out.

It looks nice, but there's not really much to review yet.

On the 'Home' link on the homepage, why not put a refresh?

A link TO the homepage ON the homepage is one of Jakob Nielsen's "Top Ten Design Mistakes" - you might delete it.

I Like the ALL CAPS rollover effect: very nice.

The arrow bullets are a touch too close to the text; at least 2px of white space would help that.

Lastly, I'm not sure if the "What's New" needs to be on the Services page - maybe just the homepage. When viewing other pages, you expect the content to change.

That is a good idea. Thanks. I may update all of my sites' home page links, since this is a simple workaround site caching. Never really gave that a thought before.

You are correct. However, a technique I have found after doing several usabilty tests, is highlightling or changing the link of the page the user is on. In this case, I used caps.

The arrow bullets are a touch too close to the text; at least 2px of white space would help that.

I use Firefox and the <li> arrows looked fine, but they did look a little too close on IE. Thanks for the tip. I will be making that change.

Also, Thanks for reminding me about the Home page link on the home page. It's nice to see others are well read in proper design guidelines.

And thanks for checking out the site. I know there is not much as far as content, but that is all she wanted for now. She said she is sending all of her business background info to a copywriter and we may be adding more content and pages soon.

I also prefer to get opinions and suggestions early in the design process as they help foresee problems and help me streamline the process before we actually consider a site finished and ready for advertising.

One thing I have found, even though I run usability tests (I typically use 3 subjects..ala Steve Krug's method) I can always count on you all here, on adding some tidbits and suggestions that are either overlooked during the tests or mistaken as a non-factor due to "subliminal gloss."

I always appreciate and welcome suggestions...especially from peer groups such as yourselves.

As always, a big thanks for taking the time to check out any posts I put on here.
