This is the website to my school, I personally don't like it and think it's tacky. I didn't make it I'm just wondering if I am right.

Note this was made with frontpage.

i was going to say front page.

iv heared of contrasting colours but thats a bit painful.

quick notes:
alot of Deprecated tags: font, center
use of tables for layout is often seen as bad practice
little/no consistancy between pages makes it a pain to navigate

things that would benefit the site:
use of a server side language and database to manage the content
layout and presentation managed thorough style sheets

the downside would be remaking the site would be alot of work transfering the content with it from what i can see a pure html site.

just on the home page theres some html problems
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.minneotaschools.org%2Fpage_one.htm

and the site fails on alot of the accessability checks/standards which is becomming a big issue now and especially as a school its probably an idea to look at sorting some of them.

Yikes! It looks so.... 90's....

Actually, this looks about on par with most (public) school sites. That's not saying much. :D

You might look at some college sites for some design ideas, or look into some free templates.

My school's site is done with frontpage and is equally tacky and I sympathise with you.

It's a really bad advert for anyone that wants to do IT there.

Also, I found a glitch:

if you go to the faculty page and hover over 'Neal Ingebrigston' then the page goes mental.

I don't like it, however I agree with kdla, so many public schools have that same kind of....amateur look. It's ridiculous that when you hover over a word/name, the rest of the table moves. They probably all got their IT guy to do it, who has no experience with webdesign, but is the only one with front page haha. My school's site was similar to that a year or two ago.....at the moment I am designing a new one for them.

I'm glad you said that you didn't do it.

Start from scratch.

to make it over try a good template as a starting block... there are a few at http://www.oswd.org/ which are worth a look... but have a go and who knows...

Looks like a typical school web site (Yikes!)

Glad you didn't do this! LOL. I would definately do away with the dark background and yellow text. If blue and yellow are the school colors, there are other ways of displaying it.

Browse the web and look at other school web sites for ideas. Keep us posted on your progress.

Good Luck.
