Has anyone here "worked" as a web designer? If so, how much do you charge for your services? Are there tutorials about this?

A percentage of the income from the resultant site. ray326 04-23-2006, 01:37 PM How one might charge is probably ok for discussion here but what one charges is off limits and the thread will be deleted if that happens. TiGGi 04-24-2006, 09:12 AM in my expirience you can't charge everyone the same way. You might run into the company that throwing money left and right and you just jump in and get your share and then for the same kind of work some other company would only pay you pennies for it. Some cut they on the budget, some cuz they stingy... RAY is it ok if I mention that sometimes I get payed in apples? :p ray326 04-24-2006, 09:24 AM Apple ][s? TiGGi 04-24-2006, 09:32 AM you know the ones that grow on trees Compguy Pete 04-24-2006, 11:26 AM So far this topic is staying in line with the following link on topics about pricing: http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73852 Oh I'm also moving this topic to the business section. Kendi 04-25-2006, 11:05 PM I've been in business for about a year and this is where I am now with charging my clients.... I deal with a lot of small business owners so I charge a flat rate per page for a basic HTML design with limited features, such as a limit of 1 photo per page and text navigation. Then I charge for all the extras like roll-over effects, button, tab or menu navigations, extra photos, background music, contact forms, guest book, forums, visitor counter, photo gallery, etc. It has worked well for me because I have been able to "negotiate" with my clients as to what they "need" and "what they can do without" so that I can stick to their budget. All of my clients have been pretty open as to what their budget is and I try not to go no more than a couple hundred dollars above what they tell me. I charge by the hour for FLASH, E-Commerce and more detailed web sites. With experience, you will be able to estimate how long it might take you to design what they want and then accurately quote them how much it will cost, based on the number of actual hours you put into their design. But, pricing is up to you and how much you think your work is worth. What works for someone else might not work for you. Good Luck! Kendi rpcarnell 04-26-2006, 02:49 AM Thanks for your replies. And sorry I didn't post this in the business section. I thought it belonged in general discussion. webdeveloper.com
