one of my desktop pcs keeps restart all the time, even with OS freshly installed, I took it to the local PC dealer where I bought this pc from, the dealer said that it's the problem of my motherboard, I will have to buy a new one.

I dont really trust that guy, any suggestion?

He could be right..although u should find out mroe about it first before buying a new one...usually when a computer restarts..it lacks in virtual memory..for example..running too many programs at once or playing a game that needs alotta ram could restart your computer randomly...also a computer can restart when something in ur computer overheats..for example the motherboard or the CPU.

I could probably tell you the problem using anaylitical software remotely .. it does sound like a overheating problem like the CPU as albert said ... a virtual memory problem behaves slightly differently .. and i doubt seriously whether its a direct problem with the motherboard as again it would behave in a different manner .. but is it just cutting out only and restarting or is there something else like noises or errors there? next time you use your computer note down its whole procedure including all noises etc that may be slightly differentto the point it restarts then if you give me a few more details i can help you narrow the problem down. Feel free to contact me on MSN if you still need help

if it was over heating dont most new motherboards have a buzzer thing that goes when it over heats like with voltage problems when your running a computer of a plug socket thats got too many things attacted

not always ... but as i said to ssffcc you need exact details especially when trying to troubleshoot a problem remotely ... it could be anything within reason apart from ram/slots, fried cpu/socket or on board circuits. If it was any of those it wouldnt even start. But if no errors (like bios/post errors) are noted then the most likely thing would be a lack of compound between the cpu and heatsink, not the only thing just the most likely.

hmm i remember my computer always shutting down because of my video card...simply because it couldnt handle the programs running..

another guess it that maybe youve short circuited the motherboard somehow???

thx very much for every trying to helping me out, lately I v been very busy at uni~ sorry for the late response.

I took the motherboard back to the dealer, he replaced it for me, but the problem is still there. I think it might be the problem of video card or something else pluggged onto the motherboard that is not capable to handle programmes any more. one of my friend fixed his similar problem by replacing a new video card. however, I will give it a shot when i finish my semester, and provide feedback here.

thx again
