I'm wrestling with a resolution/screen size problem for a front page that is one big graphic. I can't figure out a way to automatically rezise the graphic for the resolution/screen size. My client's employee looked at the new graphic front page with a 800x600 resolution on a 15" screen and ended up having to endlessly scroll.
Is there anyway to vary the size of the graphic based on screen size/resolution?? I've emailed several other designers and they said it can't be done.

the best thing to do is to make ur site 800x600 compatible, which mean the width of site needs to be about 750 px. I make all my site that width!

No not really without DHTML trickery but that won't get the desired result obviously you could use percentages on the image width, etc. Though it's not the same thing as dynamically changing the image dimensions itself as it only changes the placeholder for the image to fill.

If I make the image 750px width then on the "normal" screen and resolution being sold by the various computer manufacturers, 15-17" with 1024x768 resolution, you end up with a ton of empty space. I can always set the body to a color or pattern.
Robert, what's your solution??

I wouldn't choose the DHTML solution; I'd be rather worried if I saw an image of dimensions around 800px by 600px unless it was a high-resolution photograph – I assume your idea was to make a large image a wallpaper?

the front page of this particular client's web site is their logo with some additional graphics. It's a clear sharp image. The screen looks very empty on the standard res and monitor if the page is setup for 800x600 res, sort of huddled in the upper left. the navigation is part of the bottom edge of the image using a map. They don't have a lot of content, it's more a branding issue for their business which is extremely lucrative and highly competitive.

thanks, Tiggi, I hadn't thought of that, not sure why. Maybe due to the amount of changes I'll have to do to the links 4 times a year. Really, that's not very much and I think I'll give that a shot. thanks!!
