reciving a click on disable drop down box

i have a text box that when it is "disable" mode and i click it it catches the click and gives me an alert!

when i try to do the same to a drop down box it isnt working!
why? what can i do so when i have a disabled drop down box and i click on it it becomes enabled!

what are you trying to do exactly the whole thing why do you need this?

wi have a text box and a drop down box!
when one is active the second one is disabled!
so when i press on the text box it beomes enabled and it disables the drop down' and i want to do the same with the drop down- to disable the text box and make the drop down active -> but this isnt working for me

well this is really a question for the java script forum man. Unless you ar eusing php or something.
