Hi. I know that the extension .mov is for video and .aif is for audio, but in previous Quicktime Players - up until 6.5.2 - you could change the extension of a .mov file to .aif and it would still play as a video in the QT Player.

But with the advent of QuickTime 7, this results in an error and crashes any program in which you are trying to do this.

Can anyone shed any light on why this is? Why the change I wonder?

Is it possible to have QT7 revert to the behaviour of past QT Players - by a file association or something?

I have a specific reason for wanting to retain the old behaviour.

Thanks,

Terry

I can answer my own problem.

Apple has released version 7.1 of its Player and the problem has been resolved. How, or why it happened I'll never know.

But version 7.0.X to version 7.0.4 inclusive of Quicktime exhibit this behaviour:

...renaming any .mov file to an .aif file renders the file unplayable as a video file.

Of course, why you should want to rename a .mov file as an .aif file and expect it to play is another matter.

Still, I would like to know more about it.

My thoughts exactly but glad you for yourself sorted!
