Is there an easy way to delete members who have just signed up to spam your membership page with the website address? It sure would be nice if there was a checkbox next to each member and you could just prune them that way. How do you handle this?

You can try management. It is in admin panel and under User Administration. Here you could delete or you could inactive your members. If it's a recurring problem you may enforce more strict measures such as banning of ip addresses.

One thing that some spammers do is sign up but never post. They just have their site url in their profile. Vbulletin allows you to exempt user profiles from being crawled by bots, but I dunno about phpBB

Go to Administration Panel -> Admin Index -> Edit Profiles
Type in the name of the person you want to delete and hit "Look up user".
You will be taken to a page where you can edit everything from the user's name, password, email, settings, user group etc. On the very bottom of the page is a checkbox labeled "Delete this user?". Fill it then hit "Submit" to delete the user.

Also in user admin >disallow nanes u can ban spammers that use the start of a name like spambot spammer spamminator etc by banning user name spam* or something like that. Also if they are using the same IP addy then ban that

Ive found that enabling image verification stops these spammers from registering :)
Or you could set Enable account activation to Admin.
