One of my computers is using a new ABit brand motherboard...we installed it, plugged in all the components and away we went!...or so we thought.
We originally had Windows XP Home on the HD and installed the drivers for our components which were on separate disks..installed the board drivers and BIOS...
Problem is that when it boots..sometimes it crashes and reboots itself up to four times before getting into Windows.
Afterwards it often give us the "Windows has recovered from a serious error" type blather yet except for the MINIDUMP folder, nothing can be found with scan disk.
Because the version of Windows XP Home is only good for one computer, we had to reinstall Windows XP Professional...a copy my fathers freind gave us so we could try and use some of the tools on it.
At first we thought we were home free but we still have problems booting up.
Our HD is the Master and one CD ROM is a Secondary Master and the other CD is the Secondary Slave with the Floppy being the primary Slave.
We have checked the BIOS Settings to see if we overlooked anything but everything is in order..we used the default settings..we only changed, at one point, the boot sequence so we could boot from the Windows CD so the HD could be reformatted..it has since been changed back.
So far we have found no problems with Windows or BIOS...we are thinking we may have gotten a lemon as far as boards go..or maybe ABit isn't as great as some sites say it is.
Anyone have any ideas what is going on? My father only uses it for surfing and compilling letters.
