greetings all!,

i have a question and as a newbie here, i am bound to make a few mistakes in the proper place to post questions so, if i screw up, look the other way!

i have a dell dimension 110, 2.53 celeron ghz processor on board. i have written and e-mailed dell countless times but, their customer service is the crappiest on the planet!

i would ask you as to what is the largest processor i can place on the motherboard in this unit? you pretty much have all the info i have at this time. if ya need any more info, i will try to dig it up!...thanks again!!

it is not the system that supports the cpu size, but the motherboard.

find out the make of motherboard (usually printed on it) an then check online

[EDIT]

Ok, I just contacted dell and for the B110, they said:

the celeron category, you can upgrade upto processor with (3.06Ghz, 533FSB, 256k) and in Pentium category, you can upgrade up to processor with (2.8Ghz, 533FSB, 1M of cache memory).

***thanks for the reply! i have e-mail addresses for 3 people at dell including the ceo's e-mail address and not a soul has bothered to get back to me or supply me with the info i needed. i had tried their on-site help but, got a runaround there too. i was aware that it is the motherboard that will determine size - speed but probably stated it incorrectly. a "high-5" for thr help!!

any idea what a good price to pay for a 3.0 processor and fan combo and can i use an athlon on this board?...will the size (speed) be the same?

depends what socket number it is ... for a 3gig cpu+heatsink your looking between £50-£200 .. totally dependeant on your motherboard though ... for example socket 775 3gig cpu's can be obtained at a good price of around £90
