im using fireworks and wanted to know is there anything i need to know about the size of canvas or anything else that will make the graphic show up best on a standard size business card???? What is the best size i should use when designing it so it wont show funny on the card???

design it at the size of a standard business card... I know it is a vector based program, but I still notice than when resizing any border sizes dont change width.

You need - bleed, safety, and trim specifications.
Or better yet if your just printing them out on your home printer get the size from the package of business cards... then do 300dpi.
72dpi is a little low for a highquality print.

Yeah, 300dpi is the standard resolution for printing I think. The canvas should be 8.5x5.5 inches (a fairly standard size). Hope this helps.

A standard business card is 2" x 3.5". 300 dpi is a good resolution. Fireworks gets a little cranky working at 300dpi, but it's doable.
As Pete said, you need bleed, safety, and trim specifications to make sure the cards print okay, unless you're printing them yourself.
