Greetings…

Having read Derek Powazek’s book “Design for Community” I have decided that for many reasons that a paid members area with premium content but at a low annual fee of around $3.00 (US), or £2.00…

I need to cover the costs of the site and I firmly believe people interpret a free service as free of value and it is therefore not respected.

Has anyone gone down this payment road before and if so how did it go? Who’s payment handling service did you use???

Making what pay? Please be careful about discussing rates on things here. Discussion of rates and charges for your services are not permitted.

the subject was intended to be about making a limited return on a website, my apologies for any misunderstanding...

Don't worry, I'm not trying to be heavy-handed or anything. It's just that discussion of exact pricing of the services you offer is not permitted for legal reasons. It's based on price fixing laws, things like that. So you can talk about charging in general for use of your site or its services, but we can't allow discussion of specific pricing because it may be construed as an attempt to fix prices which Jupiter Media Corp. and/or Webdeveloper.com failed in its responsibilities to stop/remove. Hence the strict enforcement of the rule and the link in my sig.

Hope that's cleared it up a bit so you know where you stand. ;)
