I was doing my friend a favor with some software problems. At this site (http://www.seriall.com/), it asked me to download an Acitve X Control. Yeah, I know. Bad idea. Too late. So far, I know the home page was changed, a "search" program (loads tons of popups) was added to the desktop, and several annoying popups have visited us.

Can any one recommend a good cleaner and/or adware remover?

We resorted to restoring his comp. About this link: are you suggesting downloading Fire Fox? I mean, yes, anything is better than Ie and Fire Fox is great, but how does that help with this sort of porblem? Sorry if it's obvious, I've never used Fire Fox.

FireFox won't remove the problem, but it can help keep you from them.
download it here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

and read about it on these pages:

It's better in every aspect imaginable, even those they haven't thought of yet :D

But to get rid of the problem, I suggest Adaware (http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/), Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) and AVG (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1). I use all these and I don't have any problems.

Yep try spybot it's the best anti-spyware i have used ever!
Firefox will stop you from getting Active X controls though.
Also a firewall may help ;)

AVG has a firewall.
