Hi

I have set up a LAN connection in my house with just the 2 computers, but, i have a slight problem.

On the "computer 1" when both computers are turned on, a pop-up balloon comes up saying "Local Area Connection. Speed : 100Mbps" - Thats the good one.
But, on computer 2, when they are both switched on this computer gets a pop-up balloon saying "Local area connection - Limited or no Connectivity"

So, when i go to play a cuple of games with my bro, sometimes, the Network multiplayer screen crashes the game (But not an ALL games i play).

So, i was wondering how this can be fixed - or if anyone has the answer to it.

I have tried to reset the connection by disabling them then going through the wizard again where it says "Setup a home or small office network" but it keeps coming up with the same thing.

Please help! - Chriz

p.s. We are both running XP Home.

What is the speed of computer2 when it's turned on by its self? How are you assigning IP addresses? DHCP? Are you using a router or?

You mean the speed of the computer or the LAN?

How are you assigning IP addresses?
The ones they already come with :p or what the wizard makes up ...or summit like that :D

DHCP?
DHCP????

Are you using a router or?
Nope, just a direct connection between them

I'm suspecting that you may have the same IP address on both systems...could be wrong though so why don't we do this.

On both systems:

Start|Run and type in CMD in the text box. Hit enter.
You should now have a command window. Type in IPCONFIG and hit enter.
What is reported as an IP Address?

In Windows, it takes a long time to discover new computers when they are connected to an intranet. 10 minutes or more? Don't remember.
