greetings,
as a newbie i will probably post this as some other messages in the wrong forum sections as i am unsure what most of this stuff is so, please be patient as it is not intentional.

1)...i run (or it runs me) win xp home. i want to uninstalll windows media
player (bundled with system disc unfortunately) and use an erlier version
(say, about v6). how do i go about it and does anyone have a link to
the version 6?

2)...in win xp home, there often appears to be a "pop up bar" when i go to
some web sites saying that i need to install flash (which i do not want
to). the help section in xp home is useless as it only says that the bar
can be closed but not shut off. how, if it is possible, do i shut the bar
OFF?

thanks for your help as i think i can learn a lot here!

You realise this is a web development forum don't you?

However, with regards to your problems, rolling back to a previous edition of Windows Media Player may prove difficult if not impossible. Forget v6, it's in the archives now and probably won't run on XP anyway. Version 9/10 is much more feature rich and secure.

The information bar in the browser is there to assist you when surfing and is for your protection. As for Flash, why not install it? It sounds to me like you'd be better off on Windows 98 instead of XP.

like i said, i was unaware of what i am doing here which leads me to a question; is there a place in the forum where i can ask questions as i have been asking? i also meant no disrespect to the forum by asking a question or two be-it apparently in the wrong place.

i have either v9 or 10 and don't care for them much. maybe i can find another media player on the web.

as far as the "bar" goes, i take the comment (about win 98) that you said as a "shot" but, to each his own.

i didn't mind win 98se or win xp, it's just a matter of the stock media player version. why i don't install "flash" you asked, well it is just a personal preference and that is it.

Flash is harmless though and it does mean missing out on all those fancy adverts and even that gorgeous talking lady on this website...
