I got a flag up on the Pc today, supposedly by Microsoft, saying I should up-date... So I took a look, as you do. Then I got a message saying that I had "Unauthorised" software, and should go to their site to deal with it. Fine...
So I did. Then I am informed that to gain "Authorisation" I will have to pay for it! Which is where I clicked off the site - rapid! I've allready paid for this stuff once. Now, every time I boot I've got this message about unauthorised software etc., which is irritating to say the least.
Has anyone else seen this? Is it a scam? And the most important question of all - How can I get rid of this damn annoying message?
Any help would be really appreciated. TIA, Nick.

Download any good anti-spyware/virus application.

It may be an official scam. The last update I saw out of MS for XP was one of their "authentic software" scanners. Since I believe I'd already been there done that, I told it to skip the "update" and never mention that one again. I haven't had any problem. Indeed, what you consider proper use and what MS considers proper use may be at odds depending on the state of your computer and OS.
