Ya know, one of the original reasons I joined this forum was because of a dilemma that has been bugging me for years, I just have neglected to ask about it. (call me crazy  )

I'm crazy for music, and I use iTunes to play it, and keep it organized. Whenever I type a report, I either use MS word or openoffice and I have to listen to music while I type (a physiological requirement:D)

Whenever I run either word or openoffice with iTunes together, eventually the text editor will crash. It never fails. Sometimes the same problem occurs when I use real player, but never when it's MS media player.
If needed, I can post the exact error message I receive. It's driving me nuts!
(Oh, the same thing happens on other computers that I've tried. Text editor + iTunes = text editor crash).

just for clarification, I already installed ms word and iTunes again, that didn't fix it.

There might be some conflict with some shared file or something...

Dangerously vague i know, but it might get you started in the right direction. :D

Always post the exact error message when you have it, and are you absolutely sure that it is a problem related to your media players? Word has never crashed when there is no music playing in the background?

Are you running on a mac or windows? what OS? what version of Word?

What are the specs of the computer? Maybe your CPU can't handle that much and once?

Run a disk cleanup and defrag.

I am running WinXP home, iTunes 6.0.4.2, and Word 2002.
My computer's stats:

1.8 ghz (AMD sempron)
512 mb ram
40 gig HD

I know it should be able to handle these. The same problem occurs on the family computer, and it's better than mine. I've run defrags, cleanups, everything. No go.
I'll be posting the error message soon.

I've seen a few articles on the web suggesting that there were some memory leak problems with iTunes for Windows. If that's still the case, then the symptoms would probably show up faster as you do more multi-tasking, as you'll be using up more memory already before iTunes starts leaking (and eventually using up memory space until the point where something crashes). Other than waiting for a patch that fixes iTunes, about all I can suggest (if that's the problem) is more RAM, and possibly tweaking the virtual memory disk space allocation, but those are just delaying tactics that might make it take longer before iTunes eats up all the memory. (And again, this is only hearsay and may not be the problem, though it certainly does sound like something in the mix has a memory leak.)

Probably an intentional bug put in by Apple to reinforce the idea that Macs are stabler than Windows PCs. ;)

Nah, I've run all my biggest programs while running iTunes, no crash. I just think it doesn't like Word.

Well, here is the error message.
