I've installed and uninstalled the new IE 7.2. It's ok but my Wells Fargo ain't quite ready so back I went. Interesting thing now is "links" don't seem to work on typical IE page as before? Just won't proceed? I've got Moz on here so I can get from A to B but I just as habit use my IE! Anybody hear of this one yet? Thanks...

eghhh the new IE is rubbish. Ive met dogs with more intelligence and sense for asthetics and functionality than anyone working at microsoft. Seriously just dont bother with IE, every version gets crappier in comparison to other browsers so whats the point in wasting your time!

It is a beta version - the whole idea of a beta release is to let willing guinea pigs (i.e., users) find all the ways to break it that the in-house testers haven't thought of (or been given the time to look for yet). If you're installing beta software on your PC, then caveat emptor.

lol very true nogdog .. but microsoft never seem to iron the bugs out of the beta versions before releasing proper versions though

I am by no means a Microsoft fan. However, having spent close to 20 years in the IT industry, most of it in software/system testing and QA, if I were grading M$'s on a curve regarding bugs, they'd probably get a "C+" or possibly even a "B-". Mind you: that's not saying that their quality is particularly good, just that creating complex software is very...ummm...complex, and in general there is a lot of complex software that gets produced with even worse quality (and a lot you never see because the projects die without ever being delivered, often due to cost overruns due to major design flaws). Basically, M$ practices "good enough" quality: good enough to sell billions of dollars worth of product while keeping their costs low enough that a sizeable portion of those sales figures are profit.

yea true its not the worst nogdog. Things like OS's for example take millions and years to produce at the very least but my point is microsoft are a multibillion or trillion maybe dollar empire employing vast amounts of professionals and there hasnt been a radical change in microsoft's OS since windows 95. (one of my friends is an open source programmer working on an OS). Apparently now microsofts share prices are rumoured to slip down though. I think the major thing putting people off open source though (like linux redhat 9) is the lack of software available so hopefully the more open source developers that create pleasing software (as in the GUI) the more people will consider switching, although linux is gaining in popularity. Anyway have you seen microsoft vista yet nogdog or what OS do you use?? (mmm not impressed myself with vista!)

Nope - I don't play with betas (I've spent enough time testing software for a living, I have no urge to do it in my spare time. :) )
I use Windows for two simple reasons: (1) amount and diversity of software available for it, and (2) it's what the vast majority of people are using, so it's what I'm most concerned about when developing.
I've toyed around with Linux from time to time, and then always gone back to Windows for the above two reasons. (And I think Linux still has quite a ways to go in terms of ease of installation and ease of use before the non-geek masses will start migrating to it, even though installation is much better than it was a few years ago.)
