I have a few questions...

I wanted to know what are the basics i need to run my own website... what are the best programs to use?
also, when making a template, what size should it be?
I want to create a website with flash videos.... any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your questions are too general.

You'll need an html editor...you can use a "fancy" one like dreamweaver or just use notepad (best). You also need an ftp program to transfer the files to your web host. I use core ftp which is free. And if you plan to make your own flash you'll need that software.
