I JUST GOT MY CABLE MODEM YEA!!!!!!!!! Just thought I would scream it at you because I am screaming it at everyone else! I am so happy!!! Ill consider setting up a linus or w2k3 server. I will probably just use redhat because I really need a stronger processor on the old machine I want to use as a server then what I have now. Yea a celeron wont cut it I need an amd or a pentium 3 to run that. So some of you linux nerds need to walk me through setting up pop3 and smtp stuff on a red hat box :)

Ah clarity, I like it. :D

And I was thinking all day of starting a fund to get you an up-to-date processor. Oh well, I'll use the funds to buy more memory or something. :p

I know the feeling of fast connection since I am on T-1 and within a few years the LAN network will be upgraded to 100 Megabit, which is a rather insane speed.

But still remember it is good to optimise files sizes.

lol I was im'ing a person and he thought a t1 was the fastest connection so I had to inform of him of dual quad and so on ti's and also t3 and then the whole string of oc connections starting with oc3 then bla bla bla....

I love the speed at work - 10Mbps - downloading browser upgrades takes only a few seconds even when the files are large!

At home I've had ADSL (broadband) for a while. It's rated at 512Kbps or something, though you can still suffer delays with busy sites. The web is only as fast as the servers!

My speedy connection, which is through the standard telephone line, came in handy recently when grabbing that new E3 Half-Life 2 video. It's over 500Mb! Though it took nearly 3 hours to download!

It's handy also for the constant upgrades from Microsoft that are part of Windows XP. I swear there's one every week!

I can also listen to streaming mp3s in real time - a great benefit. Internet Radio is also usable!

To think - companies have already announced ways to speed up the net many times. Soon downloads might be instant! DVD-quality movies could be viewed online - that would be great.

I have had the worlds fastest connection (ok its only a dual t1) at a lan party but yea sites are still slow due to server lag sometimes (but gaming isnt!)

Probably the celeron it's ok for an redhat server. Of course that depends on what services you have on that server, and how many computers are behind that server. Don't forget to setup a firewall on server :)))

Its only going to work as a simple mail server and probably an http for a low hit website or 2. I will use it for ftp sometimes but not often.
