I have been hired to create a training program on Trainersoft. They want me to use streaming video (something that I have no experience with) to show the different procedures they do. They have provided MGI VIDEOWAVE 4 for me to alter the video with. This program has no manual and was bought by Roxio but now they do not want to support it!! My first question is Does anyone know if MGI will allow me to alter for streaming video? I know that it accepts WMV but when you go to save like an AVI it does not have a way for me to create it. My next question is when I called Trainersoft they said that my server would have to accept streaming video. They are running NT 4. Does this accept streaming video? I would also be interested in viewing other sites that my offer information on streaming. I am not sure if this is where I should post this but I need help! Thank for your consideration of someone who might have bit off more than she can chew!

Hi, Robbie, I have MGI VideoWave III (three), but I don't entirely understand your question... If you (or the company you are working with) is the official owner of the video, you should be able to alter it to fit your needs, as long as no other copyright restrictions apply.

As for your streaming question, you might want to email your server admin.

It is not altering the video that is the problem. I am under the understanding that streaming video has have the extention ASF or WMV but when we capture the video from the camera it automatically gets saved as a AVI. When I produce the video and I have tried to use the extention wmv but when you try to create the template so that you can produce it as wmv I have been unsuccessful. As far as the System Admin. THis is a small company so they use an outside company so I that charge quite a bit so I am trying to do some research before we have to call them in.

Thanks for your response.

I really actually have never done streaming media, so I'm not sure which server support it, though I would think almost all of them do. Perhaps it's how you set it up.

About the video editing, I am not sure why the program isn't allowing you to save it as .wmv. My videos always save as .wmv files. Try checking your options, etc., and see if you have any options like "cartoon animation" or anything like that set on. AVI files are for cartoons most of the time.

The hosting server will need to be a streaming server (RTSP) for a true video stream. But if you only have access to a web server you can still encode you avi file to an asf or wmv and it will buffer (progressive download). For someone using a broadband connection, the video will appear to stream. For more information on Windows Media and streaming vs progressive dowload read this article:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnwmt/html/webserver.asp

hope this helps.

But then that relates back to the original question, which was how to make the AVI file encoded into an ASF or WMV file. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that.

Once you've output your file to avi at the aspect ratio you desire, let's say (320 x 240), then you could use Windows Media Encoder, which is a free download from Microsoft to encode your avi to WMV.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/wm7/encoder.aspx

Or use On Demand Producer, an old tool from Microsoft that will encode your avi to an .asf (advanced streaming format). It uses an mpeg codec. You can get On Demand Producer here:

Hi Robbie,
How did it go with your project. Did you finish your video editing?

Dont forget that after you finish editing you will ned to put your content on the net and stream it from a streaming hosting provider.

I had a similar project and had to choose a streaming provider and had no clue which one to choose till I asked a friend of mine who is a webmaster at a communications company which streaming host I should get. He told me then that the company always uses this company. I also used them and had a very pleasant experience with them.

You should check out this one: http://www.livewirenv.com/?PAGE=streaming

If you need any other help please send me an email. I have done this before and can help you out!

Bye!
Ray.
