Are you asking what the difference is between a "web application" and a "website"? If so I don't really know the answer to your question as I don't know what a "web application" is. Do you mean a "website" that has end user interaction to complete certain tasks, like modifing a database? If this is the case, then I believe that a "web application" falls under the category of a "website" and are not comparable as one is one of the other.

If I am completely on the wrong track then please correct me and try to expain it better using clearer english.

Suppose: there is a tractor company that needs an app. to keep track of sales, budget. company employees can login and find info etc. Obviously, this won't be on the Internet but used within the company. This is what I have to design.

What you need is an Access data-base linked to a spreadsheet.
All within Ms Office - Acces & Exel. It can be password protected if you need,
and accessable on a local intranet.

djeet,

Just because thats all the infomation you've been given... that doesn't mean you have all the infomation needed to get the job done.

But there isnt a magical tool that can do job costs and at the flick of a switch can do something else that's totally unrelated.

I have to design the UI( User Interface ) of the application that the employees of the company will use. It may have a login btn that allows an employee to access his/her acc., or the manager can login and c what budget has been used, what is the progress of the sales dept. and so on. Now this will not be available on the net; but the company will use it within the company. So how will the 'design' be different from a 'web site design'.
