Let us say I want to have somewhere inbetween 10 and 30 keywords (separate words) in my meta keywords tag, so I am curious, what is a "general rule", what exactly do you recommend me to do:

- to not to use many words and those in variations: optimize, optimized, optimizing, optimization, manage, managing, management, hint, hints, principle, principles, webpage, webpages, website, websites, page, pages, site, sites (and possibly also web page, web site etc.)

- or to use many different words, but only in one particular variation: optimization, management, hint, principle, page, site etc. (and possibly also plural, for instance hints, principles etc.)

P.S. -- But please, don't try to persuade me to not to use them or explain that they don't matter for search engines, since I already know all that.

You can use this to analyze whatever you decide to use:

Be sure not to use over 500 characters for keywords, and no more than 20 keywords total

And spend the bulk of your time concentrating on meaningful text content with valid, semantic HTML mark-up, as this will have a lot more impact on your search ranking than your keywords will, as the latter are only a very small part of the ranking algorithms used by the major search engines (due to their rampant misuse on the web).

The keywords meta tag is the leasdt important part of the page when it comes to how the page will be ranked. If you prend more than 30 seconds on it then that is time that could have been better spent tweaking the content or writing extra pages.

Well thanks all, but nobody answered my only original question: what's better, to not to use many words (and those in variations) or to use many different words (but only in one particular variation)
