I'm developing a PHP/MySQL based local music site. Bands can register, upload pictures, personalize their page, post show dates, give general information, etc.. We'll have front-page features w/ reviews/interviews, targeted advertising (nothing obtrusive), user comments, band blogs, search, that sorta thing. Think of it like MySpace, but just for local bands (and much, MUCH better code).
The primary goal to set it apart from MySpace is the ease of use with customization, coupled with clean HTML 4.01 Strict validating code (users will be able to specify a header graphic, change colors, and make minor adjustments to positioning).
My question to you would be.. what sort of features would you like to see in this? One thing I'm considering is music hosting, but initially the bandwidth costs might hurt us, unless we charge for a "premium" account with music hosting (which would hurt our ability to compete).
Another cool idea would be a "sounds like" viewer contribution, where they can mark a band with a tag stating bands that have similar styles/sounds, aiding in searches (bands can list this in their profile, but I want the user contributions to be more back-end oriented).
