I am being hosted through company A and my domain is registered through company B.

Company B sent me an email telling me that my domain is about to expire, and they need new billing information to renew it- but the process of updating your billing information with them is so convoluted, I realy don't want to deal with it.

So the question is, can a transfer registrars? Or can I only renew through the original company untill my name expires?

Thanks,

Nick

Sure, you can transfer to any company you want. You just need to find out the details to transfer to the new company.

Which details should I be looking for, and whom do I contact to get them?

My current registrar wants 9.95 per year to renew. Is that good, or too high?

Hi,

Here you are the ICANN FAQs for transferring domains between registrars:

http://www.icann.org/transfers/dnholder-faq-03nov04.htm

Please, post again if you are in any doubt after reading it.

Regarding the price, it depends on the service and the number of domains you are managing through them. In general, it is not a bad price for final users.
