Hello everyone.
can anyone advise me which version of Fireworks, and Photoshop, I need? I have Dreamweaver MX version 6. And I have a pentium 3 , 866mhz computer , 20gig harddrive, 365 ram, running windows 98se. My requirements are compatability with hardware/software, and general use of fireworks/photoshop.
Cheers

It really depends on exactly what you're going to be doing.

If you're mainly going to be writing code and designing simple sites, then your machine should be sufficient, though not ideal.

I think the newest version of Photoshop requires at least 1G of ram and recommends at least 2G, so if you're going to be doing any heavy-duty graphic work, then you'll want to look into buying a new computer. They're getting cheaper and cheaper all the time.

The problem with using an outdated WYSIWYG editor is that it won't have the latest browser information and might mislead you about what attributes and tags are supported in various browsers.

Any Photoshop version after 6 would be a bit much for your machine, and way more features than you would probably use anyway. Another possible graphics program to use is PaintShop Pro - I find it more user friendly than Photoshop, up to version 7 anyway (version 8 looks more like Photoshop). Haven't used Fireworks, so can't comment on that one.

Echo nataliemac's comments re the editor - there is a BIG difference between DW6 and DW8 (which I curently use) - however version 8 won't run on 98.....

Cheers
Graeme

Thank you nataliemac, for your comments regarding WYSIWYG Editor. . I will check and familarise myself with the latest browser information before starting to build my web site. Thanks again for your contribution.

Thank you Graeme, for your program knowledge. You are right about the too many features angle. I am into building a simple, clear, stylishly presentable, (images and good transitions) information focused web site. Without the whistles and bells gadgets that come with some of the new programs. A program that is easy to understand and learn is exactly what I am looking for. I have a 30-day trial version of Paint Shop Pro version 6. I will give it a try I have a few Photo editors already. Epson, Live-Pix Special Edition, and Power Publishers, Photo Editor and have course MS Photo Editor. I have not tried any of them with DW MX yet. However I have just read a pfd file the other day outlining photo editing with MS Photo Editor, which appears to work, fine on MX. Thank you again Graeme for your helpful contributions. I am at the planning stage of my site at the moment. I will let you know how I got on with Paint Shop Pro version 6, when I get round to using it. All the best. Cheers David
Don’t be surprised if you see me posting with a million and one other question as I am learning DW MX. I was just about to go into asking a question just now! Cheers David
