Quicktime saves a temp file called QT41-2932-982e5f08-dd47c5c5-d556d866-a7d8148f-146a21aa (name changes eery file) Under C:\documents and settings/(name)/ Local settings/Application data/apple computer/quicktime/downloads/tmp
Im using Windows xp sp2

The file has no extention and windows calls it "file" ive tried renaming it with no luck opening it. ive renamed it mp3 and winamp plays a very distorted sound file of the video i played. When i close the windows of the video the file disapears. :eek:

I have a subscription to the site but a very slow and choppy connection. I just want to save the video so i can watch it at any time

The main question is, "Does the site allow you to download the clips?" If not, then what you are doing is against copyright law.

1 make a html file and use this code
<a href="element you wish to download">download</a>

2 go to the site, and go edit > view source on the page displaying the movie that you want

3 take the url for the movie [most times it is like /media/moviename.mov] and add it to the url so it would be http://www.host.com/media/moviename.mov and put it in the code above

4 run the html page you created, right click on the 'download' and choose 'save target as'

5 the file / document / page element / movie is yours.

LeeU, as long as any user, does not use what they are downloading, to profit, or benifit from the material they are taking, it is not against any law. only when, they take something, and use the information in a way that it was not intended, or without permission of the creator, is it against copyright laws.

Actually, that is incorrect. According to what you are saying, I can copy music files from other sites and as long as I don't sell them, it's legal. That's wrong. That's exactly what the music/film industry is fighting.

The taking of something without the owner's permission is copyright violation. And it's also stealing. Think about what you said, "only when, they take something, and use the information in a way that it was not intended, or without permission of the creator". First of all, the fact that their is no download link, or instructions to download, show that it is not intended for the owner to allow downloads. Also, Lotus49 did not say he has permission. He just said he had a slow connection. It would be different if the site owner told him it was alright., but, according to what has been shared here, he has not.

Let me quote from the agreement you "signed" when you joined the forum: "You will not use these Forums for the purposes of sharing or distributing viruses, licenses, registration information, software keys, "cracks," or other information designed to do harm to or allow unlawful access to any computer hardware, software, networks, or any other systems." Unless Lotus49 can show that he has the permission of the site owner, then this thread will be closed.

If you use firefox (i dont know very much about other browsers) you can go to "view>page info" then click media. Find the filename in the media section, it should say "embed" next to it then go down to the bottom of the page info window and click "save as..."
Its easy.

I believe you should re-read though what i had stated.

Say if i see a cool flash animation, or a cool movie that i wish to download because it has inspired me. As long as i do NOT edit the origional file, or decompile it, and use pieces or music from it, it is NOT illegal.

If what you are saying is true, sites like flashkit.com that use soundbites either taken, or merged togeter from real songs, would be on riaa's list of sites to close. What about sites, that offer clips of your favorite charectors, such as the Simpsons, or a favorite movie, available for download for use on your computer? Same thing.

Reguardless. As I stated before. As long as you download something, and do not use it to benifit, or plagerise(sp?) the material, OR it can not be used in a way to make a profit, or profit off of anothers work, it is not illegal.

Allow me to quote then form the copyright office (http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html#wci)

What Is Copyright?

Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U. S. Code) to the authors of “original works of authorship,” including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. This protection is available to both published and unpublished works. Section 106 of the 1976 Copyright Act generally gives the owner of copyright THE EXCLUSIVE RIGHT to do and to authorize others to do the following:

* TO REPRODUCE THE WORK IN COPIES OR PHONORECORDS;
* To prepare derivative works based upon the work;
* To distribute copies or phonorecords of the work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending;
* To perform the work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and motion pictures and other audiovisual works;
* To display the work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and choreographic works, pantomimes, and pictorial, graphic, or sculptural works, including the individual images of a motion picture or other audiovisual work; and
* In the case of sound recordings*, to perform the work publicly by means of a digital audio transmission.

You can justify all you want but the law is plain and simple: the copyright owner has the exclusive rights to it all. You cannot do anything with it unless he/shee gives their permission. While people may do others things with it, it doesn't make it legal. I'm not going to argue the point. We are only concerned with the legalities here, not what you can get away with.

BTW, you make a broad assumption about FlashKit. Believe me, the proper licenses have been obtained, as required by law.
