Style Sheets instead of Tables?

Okay, I've read several times now in many different places that it is bad to use Tables for the layout of your website. They say that instead you should use Style Sheets to properly set up your layout. I've never quite understood how this would work or why it would be better than using tables. If someone would like to explain how you would use Style Sheets to create a layout that would be great. And a link to a website that uses such a layout would be really nice too. Thanks!

I am getting into css right now. Its a lot less work then tables and it works a whole lot better. http://knights.europe.webmatrixhosting.net/ideas/index.html Thats the latest thing I have done maybe some of the others can give you better examples.
