Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Flash Player in Windows still using Version 7
My Flash Player has been upgraded to FP8, then 9 for some time now. It uses FP9 in browsers but not when I open a SWF on my desktop. It uses FP7 - why? I really need to get it using FP9 so that I can test my files properly offline,

Isn't this because your flash player in your internet browser is intergrated into it as a plugin when you initially download it? I think your 'offline' browser depends on the version you download.
Would something like this help with what you're trying to do......?

Yes that's right, but I can't for the life of me get it to upgrade. I've downloaded the latest Flash Player or Shockwave Player from everywhere I can find and it never upgrades my desktop player.
Isn't the link just for FP9 browser plugin?

The standalone player version is always a bit behind the plug in. And downloading the plug in doesn't do anything for the standalone.
If you really want it quick you could always download and install Flash 8. This'll install the latest standalone player. There is a link at Adobe as well, but I can't remember it at the moment - if you use the search on the site it's quite comprehensive.

Flash 8? Why doesn't Flash 9 install the latest standalone?

I meant the IDE for creating swfs, which is currently called Flash 8. The flash PLAYER is at version 9.
So - if you download the trial from Macromedia it'll automatically install the latest stand alone flash player, which is believe is version 9.0.16.0. Having said that this is a real convoluted way of getting the player.
I've just spent the last twenty minutes scouring the Macromedia site and I can't find a link to any stand alone players. Maybe it'd be worth having another download from Macromedia (sorry Adobe) and installing the latest player for browsers again. If you're interested I've got a swf that'll check your flash player stand alone version which I could send you. I'd have to send you it 'cos if you went to our site to view it online you' obviously see your browser player version!
It's ok, I created my own SWF to check version already (on my site too, hehe). Besides, you can just right click on the player to see the version. That's how I know it's using v7.
I guess I didn't mention I don't use Flash (although I have MX 2004), I use SWiSHmax.
I found an install for the standalone player a couple of times, but it doesn't seem to update. I have installed FP9 from Adobe about 3 times already. So there is a trial version of Flash 8 that I can get? I know MX came with FP7 standalone - does Flash 8 definitely install Flash Player 9 (standalone, not browser)?

I believe so - but having said that we've got Flex Builder installed too, and I can't remember at which point it upgraded the standalone - sorry.
I'm not entirely sure why on earth there isn't a straightforward link on the Adobe site, or any help? Ho hum.
I checked out your site - liked the experiements and then instantly checked all my replies in this thread.
Just let me know if there are any more eggs I can teach you to suck!
