on (click) for movie clip...

well, here's the idea. i have a movie clip being used as a button in Flash 8. on (rollOver) it plays a section of the clip's animation, and on (rollOut) it plays another. i also have a gradient glow filter applied to the movie clip. only problem is, how do you get it to do something when you click it? should be a peice of cake, right? i tried on click, press, and release, and besides not doing anything, they seemed to mess up my filter. any help would be much appreciated.

i also have another question. i know about the textArea component being used with the UIScollbar component, but how, besides a scrollPane, do you make customized text with a scrollbar? is there a way to hook a scrollbar to a movie clip or something? thanks a lot.
