I'm short of stories and I just created a topic menu on:http://busovaca.awardspace.com Thanks AnotherDesigner 08-08-2006, 07:36 AM You can't directly copy news stories, because that would be breaching Copyright laws. The major news agencies (Reuters, BBC News, possibly CNN?) tend to have an RSS or XML feed, which you could include on your website, as the links to the news stories go to their website rather than your own. exodus1 08-08-2006, 08:54 AM But I also saw that websites like www.afterdawn.com are publishing stories that were written by other news providers like registrer.com, msnbc.com, Reuters.com, etc. and they just put link to source below the story. AnotherDesigner 08-08-2006, 09:41 AM Unless you have a written statement from the Website / News Agency, confirming that you are allowed to reproduce the article either in part or full, then it is a breach of copyright whether you provide a source link or not. However... You can re-write the article yourself, as long as you don't copy it directly... So you effectively write the article, but base it on the facts stated in the original copy... You then would need to include a link to the original story declaring where the facts/figures/inspiration came from. By all means, go ahead and copy the article if you wish, but as I said - unless you either A) Get a written statement from the news agency/website; or B) The website has a written statement Saying that you can reproduce the articles in full or in part, then you're leaving yourself wide open to prosecution under Copyright laws. AnotherDesigner 08-08-2006, 09:48 AM Just to clarify for you... Point 1 on AfterDawn.com Disclaimer (http://www.afterdawn.com/general/legal.cfm) 1 All material presented on these pages is property of the company unless otherwise mentioned. The content can be only copied, partly or in full, with a written agreement from the company. BBC's website tells you about reproduction too... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/3281815.stm Although the BBC let you display (legally) some of their headlines... Just go to: https://ssl.bbc.co.uk/syndication/html/registration/ for information Sorry that this might not be the answer you were looking for. FireCracker37 08-08-2006, 11:49 AM There is a host who provides you with news and such, that you can put in your own template. I have played with it very little, but you can feel free to check them out. www.1and1.com exodus1 08-09-2006, 08:36 AM Well I guess I need to remove content from website but where can I get source for stories?
Maybe do I need to send for some website supporters an email in which I will ask for permission to publish their stories? KDLA 08-09-2006, 09:46 AM Why not just provide links to news agencies with an abstract?

Headline

Today, in Iraq, U.S. Forces....

The abstract can be two or three sentences long, and in the exact wording of the news story. (If all you're doing is replicating news found on established news carriers, where people would normally visit, then you've got to wonder about the necessity of your website, or at least this section of it.) Good Luck - KDLA LeeU 08-09-2006, 10:01 AM Maybe do I need to send for some website supporters an email in which I will ask for permission to publish their stories? You would be surprised that many will allow it. Also, you can see about publishing the first paragraph with a link to the main story. exodus1 08-09-2006, 08:32 PM Well I have send request to techweb and I don't know will they allow it becouse they are big news providers but maybe some smaller ones? AnotherDesigner 08-10-2006, 11:30 AM Wait and see what their response is. The worst they can say is "no", but like LeeU said - many of them will say it's ok as long as you provide a link to the original article, and you only reproduce a small amount of the article... It's free marketing for the news agency site, and everyone wants as much publicity for as little money nowadays. exodus1 08-10-2006, 01:44 PM Wait and see what their response is. It's free marketing for the news agency site, and everyone wants as much publicity for as little money nowadays. I have for now found articles on:http://www.certificate.net/wwio/topics.shtml until I get permissions from other sites this will be it. This site stores all interesting articles from other users maybe can be helpfull for others that need topics. buzzying 08-11-2006, 10:34 AM Maybe you could have a look at press releases rather than news articles. You might be able to turn press releases into news articles. exodus1 08-12-2006, 09:28 AM Maybe you are thinking of putting news like ones in http:busovaca.awardspace.com/news.html Well I have that from moreover news but will it be more useful to have data on your server? So when I create a search engine it would be useful to search for that stories. AnotherDesigner 08-12-2006, 09:35 PM exodus, you could 'bookmark' each news article you display... But you have to be VERY careful in terms of copyright when copying ANY article from ANY site... For example... Reuters might tell me that I can display their articles on my site. That doesn't mean I can copy them though... Copyright laws also tend to dictate that storage in a database is illegal unless specified otherwise. Creating the site so that you're copying news stories onto your server will be "storing the files in a database or other information retrieval system"... Why would you need a search engine on your web site for these news articles? The major web search engines have their own (more reliable than your server and system presumably) news sources - Google, Yahoo!, MSN... go onto their homepages, hit News, type in your keyword, hit Search.... bingo - thousands and thousands of pages on the article you want. Why would people go to a site that only offers them one article, when there is so much more information available to them on these other search engines? What is your site providing that these search engines aren't? KDLA 08-14-2006, 09:21 AM Why would you need a search engine on your web site for these news articles? I believe I sense some agreement.... :D pieto20 08-14-2006, 09:51 AM Why aren't you just using RSS. I know not all sites use it but most news sites that are worth using do. This iste allows you to register and copy and paste the code into your site. http://www.rssfeedreader.com/ all you need to do is find the RSS feed address. go to the web site you want source from and do a search for rss feed, typically you can find it somewhere. LeeU 08-14-2006, 11:07 AM Here's (http://www.gigalaw.com/news/index.html) another idea for you. Just give a summary with a link to the full story. AnotherDesigner 08-16-2006, 08:31 PM Fair cop KDLA... *makes mental note* must start reading other's posts in greater detail ;) Actually, was thinking if two people said the same/similar thing, then maybe it might be paid attention to! :D exodus1 08-23-2006, 09:33 PM Well all done. I think I am finished with topics I have put some sories that could be helpful in some ways considering internet problems and some other stories. I have added search even even though this is some kind small website but maybe from some help. I think I will from now on just keep adding interesting stuff. webdeveloper.com
