I use layer percentages a lot, so that the page expands and contracts according to the screen resolution. Pages design in MX show correctly in designer view and on the browsers. The same page in 8 has no vertical. To explain the main layer is set up to be a percentage of the screen and the nested layers a percentage of this main layer. To get the designer view to expand the layers I have to set up a pixel height. The width is not affected and will work as a percentage.

An example page is my company home page www.arttel.co.nz. I am currently based in the UK but we are emigrating to NZ in Oct. thus the nz homepage

I'm not sure I would call this a new bug but it's surely a bug of DW. Most coders including myself will tell you never trust the Design view in DW.

Use it if you must, however your best bet is going to be the F12 hotkey to preview it in your browser. that's going to always give you your best and truest view of the page your working on.

I agree, I always test on the browsers and in different screen sizes. It just means working with this setup is not really possible with all my layers squashed at the top. MX is fine so I can work in that, but 8 has some nice new features, so it means swapping applications. As an aside Microsofts expression displays layers O.K. although I do not intend using it at the moment. One reason for the query was, had I missed something stupid, I have been through the 8 bible looking for setup solutions. Anyway thanks for the reply
