Make an object fade into view

Hi all, if you've read my other thread in this board (the one on getElementById), you'll probably know by now that I want to do some kind of description for a link.

Now that I've managed to make it appear and disappear, I'm considering making some fading effects for the descriptions. This is probably my very first encounter with such design effects... :(

I want the description to fade in. Can this be done? What would the rough code be like?

i suggest that you use an absolute position for your descriptions; this way your content doesn't dance around the page

Dance? You mean the everything below the descriptions?

Ok... I'll try to fix that ASAP. So, how do I make an object fade into view, or is not possible? :(
