Need help in inserting text in a image map.

I create a image map and I would like to know how insert text into the middle of the picture without the picture disappering once I started typing over it. I tried using my image as a background but then my links on the map doesn't work and I could type text because its a background image now instead of image map.
Codes I use on my image maps are map, area rect: that defines where my links are and thats it.

There might be a few ways to come to a solution, but it would help if I could see the image. Please point out where you want to type the text as well.
