check the file exist or not

i have a text box and button
in the text box, i entered the file name and its path.
when i click the button, control check whether the file is exist in the particular path. If it is, should return as true else return false.
i tried with javascript
but i face problem
if u have code in JS most welcome
otherwise send ASP code
