Alright, I have this page here:

http://dandy.t35.com/

And the host says that there are no banners or advertisements or pop-ups. I get a pop-up whenever I go to my site. I looked in the source and it looks like the server is inserting a pop-up javascript in my page right next to my body tag. I need a script that will disable the script it inserts. I read the terms and conditions and they say its ok to remove that. The server automaticly inserts it which means its not there when I build the page. I tryed <noscript> but then it disables my page. Maybe <noscript> would work but I'm not doing it right. Please help. Thanks. :D

You cant :) A popup blocker can block them but if you were to put code in that gets rid of the popups then it would viod your user aggreement and you would probably have a deleted account, thats if there even were a way to do this.

Here is what it inserts:

<script language='javascript' src='/freehost.ad'></script>

I know there is a way to fix this because I have seen it done before. I forgot how to do it though. :p

Know this, that if you have lied about your terms and conditions not forbidding this then you are a cur. Put the following in your document's HEAD element.

window.open = function () {}

But won't that disable the opening of all windows on my page? Isn't there a way to just make it so it just dosn't allow any thing to happen if it has the name of freehost.ad or something?

I dont think you should do it, I think it will probably get you into trouble with your host if they see it. Do you really want to risk it?

If they say it's OK, then they should be able to tell you how to do it. Also, if somebody is injecting code into MY pages, I'd be less than happy about it.

Hard to believe they would allow you to remove it, though, if they keep putting it back in...

He would not be removing it, he would just be messing it up so it cannot function.

I think it has something to do with people in higher places. I think the server he is running his server on is injecting it. He probably gets a hosting discount or something for allowing those to pop-up and also by doing it that way he can say there are no pop-ups on his server but yet there really are. Also about my site design. It was something from a while back that I had done for testing but now I have a toatally new design and layout. I will update it soon but first I want the engine running before I put on the pait job if you know what I mean. Is someone still gonna help me out though?

Are you paying for your hosting by the way?

No it free. He does offer pay hosting. I have the free version which is pretty much the same as payed but you just can't have a MySQL account. Payed accounts do have MySQL.

You are complaining about one popup on a free account? He is not making any money off of you I thing that one ad would be just to cover his debts and the more views that ad gets the more cash he gets.

hi Mikey...

maybe you don't care but...
Moz and $Opera really butcher the top design of your page.

I'm sorry I started this by not listening to my own conscience but I think that we need to explain to the ISP what mjdimick is planning and ask their permission. Michael, please give us that email address.

I think that we need to explain to the ISP what mjdimick is planning and ask their permission yeah... :)

i'm a bit skeptical on that point too Charles...

(something tells me that this thread is about to go dark ;) )

Yes they do screw up the page real bad.
Hey ";) k", I created a thread just for you, so that you may drop that $: http://forums.webdeveloper.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11360

BTW, the reason why his site gets screwed up is due to IE-specific <marquee> tag.

we need to explain to the ISP what mjdimick is planning and ask their permission
Isn't Michael capable of contacting his ISP to take the required permission.

something tells me that this thread is about to go dark
Oh hell it does :D
I mean, why should we be bothered if Michael breaches his agreement with his ISP? We aren't the moral torchbearers of the www, are we?
Its not like hes selling child porn (last I heard was you can get a$$ f***ed for visiting child porn site even for a second... goddamn no popups for me. Long live Opera!!)

There goes the thread to the "dark side of the moon" :)

I saw that thread Niket. I resisted the urge to respond :) (although I will do so in a moment) ...
and now I see that it has become a completely different thread starring Peo (always good for a few laughs ;) ). Originally posted by khaki

I mean, why should we be bothered if Michael breaches his agreement with his ISP? We aren't the moral torchbearers of the www, are we? I wasn't implying anything other than my belief that Mikey would not return to the scene of the crime - since, regardless of any moral/legal issues - me thinks he may have fibbed about a few things  .

and therefore... we shall probably not hear anything more about the "agreement" that he is "allowed" to bypass (even though it requires clandestine and scrupulous means to do so)

that's all I'm sayin' :)

always just sayin' (get used to it :) )...
